Wow, there’s a LOT to unpack in this newest trailer. First off if you haven’t already, go check out my breakdown for the First Far From Home Trailer from back in January. Once you’ve done that c’mon back over here and dive right in.
A huge amount of questions we had about the MCU post Avengers: Endgame are answered in this trailer. It is chock full of spoilers for that movie so if you haven’t seen that yet be forewarned. I mean, even Tom Holland himself starts this trailer off telling you that there are spoilers inbound. So with all that said…
It finally happened you guys! It’s been a long time coming, but we have been gifted with the first trailer for Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War and I gotta say, it’s so rad seeing all these MCU characters together in one place. I don’t want to waste too much time with explanations of these characters and their motivations before breaking this bad boy down, especially seeing as this will be the nineteenth (holy shit!) movie in the MCU and we’ve gotten to know the characters from this now truly expansive universe pretty well over these last ten years. Interestingly, this trailer does appear to be different than the one they produced for Comic Con earlier this year, but there’s still plenty to unpack here so let’s talk about the first Avengers: Infinity War trailer! Guys. I don’t want to alarm any of you, but I’m pretty excited about this movie. And not just to see Bilbo and Golem talking to each other. I’m actually most excited because I don’t really know much about the Black Panther mythos. I know the basics: King of a hidden African country that is way more technologically advanced than they let on, the Panther is a mantle passed down generationally, Wakanda is the only place to acquire Vibranium (the metal Captain America’s shield is made from), T’Challa is a disputed king as far as some are concerned, and he married Storm from the X-Men for a while (I’m pretty positive this will not be in the movie…. ever). But other than that, I don’t really know anything about the characters and their motivations, which is actually super refreshing. My one fear though is I didn’t know a ton about Doctor Strange besides the superficial and was hoping his movie would dive more into the character and it didn’t really.
Without much more to go on I think it’s time. So Let’s Talk About The First Black Panther Teaser Trailer: Continue reading →
First let me just say thank you to whatever deity deals with movie trailer releases. After getting the abysmal Justice League trailer over the weekend we are blessed with this pretty great Spider-Man: Homecoming one.
I’ve already covered a ton of the Spider-Man/Sony history in my Breakdown of the first trailer so I won’t rehash that here. I will note, however, that this trailer doesn’t focus as much on Peter/Spider-Man being in high school. That was the first trailer’s job to give us that John Hughes Movie feel that they are going for. This one is more about the story and the action. We get a lot of both here so let’s not waste any more time. Let’s Talk About The Second Spider-Man: Homecoming Trailer: Continue reading →
Netflix is bringing its final Defender to the small screen this March and they dropped a trailer for him this week. Iron Fisttells the story of Danny Rand (Finn Jones), a rich kid who gets marooned in the Himalayas after a plane crash and learns martial arts in the mystical city of K’un Lun before returning to New York to reclaim what’s rightfully his. If this sounds familiar that’s because it is. Iron Fist has a very similar origin story to Ollie on Arrow and even Bruce Wayne in Batman Begins. Hopefully Marvel will put their own spin on it and that it will blend nicely into the Netflix universe we’ve already gotten with Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage.
Other things of note for Danny Rand are what he can do. Not only is he one of the best martial artists in the Marvel Universe (I’d go as far as to say he’s probably the best in the whole of the MCU), he also has the power of the iron fist. He is able to concentrate his own chi into his hand, causing it to glow. The chi energy is so concentrated, that he can strike with superhuman force, while his hand stays impervious to pain or injury. In the comics Danny is also best friends with Luke Cage and they have a Heroes for Hire business. It’ll be interesting to see if this interconnects with Luke Cage, seeing as Luke was a main fixture in Jessica Jones but Jessica wasn’t in Luke Cage. At any rate they’ll all be coming together with Daredevil and almost every side character for The Defenders at the end of the year. But enough about all that, let’s talk about the first Marvel’s Iron Fist trailer: Continue reading →
