Rick: The absurdity of Aqua-bro makes me laugh. But, otherwise:

Jen:

Wonder

Loren: I tried for a while and couldn’t come up with anything to say about this. It doesn’t look bad or anything, it just looks like a movie.

RDT: I have no idea what to think about this. Regardless, I am likely not going to see it.

Rick: This movie might turn out to be heartwarming, but you get the entire narrative arc laid out for you in the trailer. Absolutely zero surprises.

Jen: This looks fine. Sweet and…fine.

The Star

Loren: You get a boat payment, and you get a boat payment, and you get a boat payment!

RDT:

Rick: Nope.

Jen: I, uh, no.

Limited Release

Almost Friends

Loren: Oh I get it, we’re in “The Most Movie That Ever Movied” season.

RDT: It’s like “Garden State, Jr.” Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing…

Rick:

Jen: Is this guy supposed to be in the spectrum? Or is that just Highmore’s go-to move? I’m fine with it either way, I love seeing accurate portrayals of ASD in pop culture but I don’t think that’s what they intended. If I was 16 I’d be down for this, but now, I’m fine.

Angelica

Loren: I don’t know, that didn’t look like THAT much of a sensual delight. Pass.

RDT:

Rick: Despite that terrible trailer, I’m still interested. Mostly for Jena Malone, but still.

Jen: That trailer could have been a lot better. I have the feeling this could be awesome, but that trailer does not give me a ton of hope. I’ll wait for the reviews before committing.

Attack of the Killer Donuts

Loren: I can’t tell if I love or hate that this is just a spiritual sequel to Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. Jury’s out.

RDT: I haven’t seen a “good” bad movie in forever. Not sure this is that, but I do wish they’d gone 100% practical. If When it pops up streaming, I’ll give it a shot.

Rick: This looks Troma movie level dumb, and I’m more than okay with that.

Jen: Look, they know what this movie is from the title. The trailer is almost and after-thought. If you enjoy this kind of movie nothing I can say will stop you from seeing it, and if you don’t, nothing I can say will get you to see it. I’m in the former camp.

The Breadwinner

Loren: That looks absolutely gorgeous, but that story seems so sad. I think I dig it.

RDT: What Loren and Rick said.

Rick: You had me at “creators of The Secret of the Kells”, which, if you haven’t seen it, seek it out. It’s excellent.

Jen: What RDT said.

Cook Off!

Loren: If you aren’t Christopher Guest, I’d kindly ask that you stop trying to make mockumentaries like this. Thank you.

RDT: I dunno…I love cooking shows and I chuckled a little. I’ll give it a shot, sure.

Rick: Jebus, do all of these people have boat payments? Stop buying boats!

Jen: There wasn’t much in this that made me want to run out and see it, but if they’re liberal with the cooking show jokes and tropes I could be the target audience for this down the road on streaming.

The Divine Order

Loren: I’m glad to see other countries had just as fucked up legislation as ours. I’ll probably never see this but I hope the people of Switzerland do.

RDT: I have no opinion of this trailer….

Rick: Huh. I would have thought the Swiss were more progressive. Not sure I’ll watch this, though. I’d rather read up on the actual history.

Jen:

Holy Air

Loren: There’s a laundry list of movies I want to see that precede this one.

RDT: …or this trailer…

Rick: Sure, it looks kind of funny, but I’m never going to get around to this.

Jen: See above.

No Stone Unturned

Loren: When this hits streaming, it hits my eyeballs.

RDT: I already have too many docs and, to date, I have watched…none…of the other ones.

Rick: Unsolved murder mystery, you say? Sign me up.

Jen: This looks sad but fascinating. I always enjoy Alex Gibney’s docs and I have a morbid fascination with The Troubles. And it still goes on today – BBCNI had a blackout on anything promoting this documentary up until just recently! That alone makes it worthwhile.

Wait for Your Laugh

Loren: To echo Rick: Yes, please.

RDT: Ok, strike what I just said about docs. I’m gonna move this one up the list and may actually watch it.

Rick: Yes, please.

Jen: Too many good docs this week! But whenever Carl Reiner is an interviewee I must tune in.

TV/Streaming

NETFLIX

DeRay Davis: How to Act Black

Loren: I laughed a couple times, I don’t see why I wouldn’t give this a shot.

RDT: Sure, what Jen said.

Rick: I worked on a pilot with DeRay many moons ago. Nice guy and a solid comedian. I’ll give it a go.

Jen: Sure, why not.

Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond

Loren: I loved Man on the Moon and am super curious about Carrey’s incredibly meta performance.

RDT: Admittedly, I don’t know much about Carrey’s pending trial, but I love Man on the Moon. It is a solid movie with an amazing performance. I’ll definitely be watching this sooner than later.

Rick: Admittedly, I’m curious, but the whole pending trial regarding his ex’s suicide casts a bit of a pallor over anything Carrey’s involved in.

Jen: What Rick said. I’ve never been a Carrey fan nor a Kaufmann fan for that matter. The whole idea of being so deep in on the act that it impacts your life is really discomforting. That being said I’m certainly curious.

Mudbound

Loren: This looks excellent. In the queue it goes.

RDT: I am intrigued, but will likely forget about, or just never be in the mood to watch, this movie.

Rick: *reviews list* Man, there’s almost too many interesting movies this week. *adds this to queue*

Jen: Well this looks great, and the reviews are stellar. Were this only in theaters, I’d comment that I’m waiting for streaming. But it’s already streaming – brilliant!

The Punisher – Season 1

Loren:

RDT:

Rick:

Jen: That’s a lot of shooting. No thanks.

Shot in the Dark – Season 1

Loren: The fact that the violence in this is real will probably be what keeps me from it. I like it when cars explode because JCVD kicked them not because of a horrific accident on the 405.

RDT: Maybe…? I dunno. Sure? **shrugs**

Rick: I can’t imagine doing this job. It must be grueling. Like Jen, I’ll at least give the first episode a watch and see if it grabs me.

Jen: I know a couple of these guys and have seen others speak at panels about the work they do. It is fascinating work and takes a very particular personality. Not sure if I can handle too much of this, but I’m for sure in for the first episode.

HULU

Future Man – Season 1

Loren: I don’t know, that looks kinda funny. If I run out of TV (not likely) I’ll give it a shot.

RDT: I watched the first episode. It was…ok. I might keep up with it, or never watch it again.

Rick:

Also, Hulu, please give me a “not interested” option when you recommend shows. K? Thx.

Jen: If you tell the audience that you’re ripping off the plot of another movie that doesn’t make it OK.
