Welcome to the Weekend Watch. Where we try to point you towards the best ways to spend your viewing time (or, at least, steer you clear of the garbage).
Movies
It
Loren: This looks terrifying in the best way. In.
RDT: I’m not a horror movie guy at all. I hate jump scares and being startled. I also don’t love clowns (does anybody LOVE clowns????). Add all that up and I’m out, right? Nope. (What a twist!) I’m so in. I’ve read the book, a couple times. And I own the original mini-series (which I might try to revisit before seeing this). So, yeah, it may be through my fingers, but I’ll definitely be watching It.
Rick: Yep, but I wish Pennywise didn’t look so obviously evil. He would be that much more terrifying.
Jen: How is it that even when I KNOW a jump scare is coming at the end of a trailer I still jump? I have high hopes for this and plan on watching this through my fingers in the theater. Wish me luck.
Home Again
Loren: I’m… I’m not sure how I feel about that movie. I think it looks ok? But maybe I’d rather just watch Sweet Home Alabama instead.
RDT: Like Loren, I’m not sure how to feel about this trailer. Like, does she fuck all three dudes? I don’t think so, but I can’t be sure. Regardless, if I see it, it’ll be streaming 6 months from now,
Rick: Nope.
Jen: Nancy Myers has the best house porn out there. Those young guys are hot. Reese Witherspoon is cool. But somehow this seems like less than the sum of those parts. Maybe on streaming… someday?
The Good Catholic
Loren: It’s no secret that organized religion freaks me out, so this one’s a little tough for me. I like John C. McGinley Doctor Cox-ing it up but that probably won’t be enough to get me to see this one.
RDT: I can’t tell if this is a Jesus movie or not, which is weird to say about a movie about priests. At first, I thought it was, but now, not sure. I’d be down for a serious movie about a Catholic priest struggling with his faith in the face of romantic love. I *think* this might be that….maybe….? **shrugs**
Rick: Nope.
Jen: This reminds me of that movie with Jenna Elfman and Ben Stiller and Edward Norton, what was that called? Keeping the Faith? Any-hoo, I like the cast here but this feels pretty by-the-numbers, I’ll pass.
