Let’s Talk About The First Star Wars: The Last Jedi Teaser!

When this teaser debuted at Star Wars Celebration Orlando I was on the show floor looking at a $2,200 Jawa action figure (and then laugh-sobbing at the fact that I had the same one when I was a kid). There was a stage on one side of the floor for The Star Wars Show Live that had a huge viewing screen. As people started to notice the new trailer was playing on it, they stopped what they were doing and payed attention. By about 15 seconds in, the whole convention had stopped and were all staring at the screen. It was a sight to behold. I know all of the convention goers were there for Star Wars-related reasons, but this still shows how effective the trailer is. Even the merchants that were there to sell us $2,200 pieces of our childhood stopped hocking Wookie backpacks and Vader plate sets to watch in relative awe.

On top of all that, it looks good! I like The Force Awakens but I can see it’s flaws. It has too many call backs and feels all too similar to A New Hope. But the small amount of footage we see here in The Last Jedi looks fresh and new. It got me excited to reconnect with these new characters on their journey with the Skywalkers. I will say that there is a bit of an Empire Strikes Back feel thematically to the story, but it doesn’t seem to be beat for beat. I think a lot of this has to do with director Rian Johnson‘s vision taking over from where J.J. Abrams left us.

Ok, enough stalling, Let’s Talk About The First Star Wars: The Last Jedi Teaser! Continue reading

Star Wars Celebration Orlando 2017 Cosplay!

We were lucky enough to be invited to Star Wars Celebration Orlando this year. It was an extra stroke of luck that this year marks the 40th lifeday of Star Wars. There was so much to see but what always catches our eye is the amazing cosplay from the fans. Here’s some of the best that we saw and also an easy link to follow to view them on imgur.

Watch the Heartfelt Tribute to Carrie Fisher from Star Wars Celebration Orlando

Earlier today Billie Lourde came out on stage dressed as Princess Leia to pay tribute to her late mother after the 40 Years of Star Wars panel. It was touching, sweet, and funny. Following her speech the crowd was treated to the excellent tribute video above. The video was even simulcast onto the showroom floor so everyone in attendance of the convention that couldn’t get into the panel (ahem *me*) could see it. The whole floor came to a halt to watch and pay their collective respects to the late, great Ms. Fisher. It was a wonderful way to kick off Celebration.

Let’s Talk About The New Thor: Ragnarok Teaser

The Thor franchise really needed a shot in the arm, and I think this may be it. How often is the third movie in a series the best? Could this be the first of it’s kind?  I mean, after Thor: The Dark World (or Thor: The Second Thor as Mr. Sunday Movies calls it) most of us were a little “meh” on the Asgardian’s standalone adventures. Another very talented actor wasted as a boring villain under so much makeup they are unrecognizable. Seriously, that’s Christopher Eccleston under there, I didn’t realize that until I saw the credits and still didn’t believe it. The sci-fi elements felt off and the comedy elements felt forced and unfunny. That looks to have been rectified in this outing.

Thor: Ragnarok looks like a sci-fi epic, with some honest to Thor funny bits. Tell me you didn’t laugh when he says he knows Hulk from work and I’ll call you a liar. Not to mention Cate Blanchett as Hela the Asgardian god of death, gives a great looking performance and could be the actual well-crafted villain that the MCU desperately needs. Couple all that with the rumors that this is a road trip comedy style movie starring Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), and The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and well, I just can’t think of something I want more.

Anyway, enough of all that, Let’s Talk About The New Thor: Ragnarok Teaser: Continue reading

Let’s Talk About The Second Spider-Man: Homecoming Trailer

First let me just say thank you to whatever deity deals with movie trailer releases. After getting the abysmal Justice League trailer over the weekend we are blessed with this pretty great Spider-Man: Homecoming one.

I’ve already covered a ton of the Spider-Man/Sony history in my Breakdown of the first trailer so I won’t rehash that here. I will note, however, that this trailer doesn’t focus as much on Peter/Spider-Man being in high school. That was the first trailer’s job to give us that John Hughes Movie feel that they are going for. This one is more about the story and the action. We get a lot of both here so let’s not waste any more time. Let’s Talk About The Second Spider-Man: Homecoming Trailer: Continue reading

Episode #60 – It’s the Summer of 2017 Movie Preview

This week the whole gang is here as the HPN staff get together to give you a glimpse of what’s to come this Summer!

Jen and Rick join Loren and Ryan to discuss which movies they are looking forward to this Summer and which one’s not so much. And even a few they’ve never heard of! The gang also talks a little bit about the new Justice League trailer that Loren so graciously bit the bullet on and did a breakdown of. And just a little bit on the new Spider-Man: Homecoming posters.

All of that plus listener questions, the Weekly Watched, more than the usual tangents, and much more!

*Sigh* Let’s Talk About The New Justice League Trailer

Woof. Surprise you guys! I wasn’t a big fan of this trailer. I’ve gone on record countless times at this point saying how much I don’t like Zack Snyder’s Murderverse version of the DCEU. I will try not to delve too deeply into that here (emphasis on try). Justice League seems to suffer from all of the previous problems the Snyder movies have in the past. It’s not all bad though, it does look like Warner’s execs have finally swallowed their pride and tried to add some levity to their scowly universe. In fact the three new heroes we meet here all have some comedic bits in this trailer which fits none of their comic counterparts. Cool. A complete misunderstanding of the characters, that’s what can be universally said about Zack Snyder and the DCEU.

This version of the Justice League picks up where The Legal Proceeding of Batman V. Superman left off. Bruce Wayne (not Batman for some dumbass reason) is going to find other heroes in the world to help him take on new threats after the death of Superman. Along with Wonder Woman, he uses the quicktime email attachments he stole from Lex Luthor and finds The Flash, The Aquaman, and (The) Cyborg. Bringing all 5 heroes together to take on Steppenwolf (not the band) and a huge army of Parademons. Seriously, this is all Bruce Wayne doing this, not Batman. Just revealing who he is to all of these people. Good thing they are heroes, otherwise this could be trouble down the line. Alright let’s not put this off any further, *sigh* Let’s Talk About The New Justice League Trailer:  Continue reading
