A Dog’s Way Home
Loren: Nope.
Rick: How negligent is this dog’s owner by not giving it a collar with a license and/or having it chipped? Isn’t that the law everywhere now? F this guy and F this movie.
Jen: I zoned out halfway through Act 2 of that trailer. If I ever want to watch a movie like this (and I don’t) I’ll rent Homeward Bound. Aw, how adorable of me to say “rent” instead of stream.
The Upside
Loren: God I hate Kevin Hart, he’s just the worst. Also this movie feels pandering and not treading any new ground.
Rick: This just reaffirms my belief that Kevin Hart has zero range as an actor. I also have zero interest in him as an actor and, consequently, zero interest in this movie. Zero.
Jen: What is Nicole Kidman doing here? OR Bryan Cranston for that matter? Or I guess a better question is why is Kevin Hart there? This whole thing is warmed over treacle I’ve seen 100 times before. I’m surprised at how strongly I feel about not liking this movie.

Touch Me Not
Loren: What?
Rick: I had the same reaction as Loren, but I kinda want to know what the hell is going on here.

Escape Room
Loren: Is this just PG-13 Saw? Could be a fun horror-thriller but the fact that they’re dumping it in early january does not bode well.
RDT:
Rick: Okay, we have Sony, who barely understands the concept of a horror movie, let alone how to make a good one + Original Film, who has the most ironic company name in the business and has never made a good horror movie + first week of January…tally that up…yep. Tired, unoriginal, and toothless. Math checks out.
Jen: I really like the idea of this movie, I could see myself watching it when it streams, but I don’t have the highest of hopes for it.
American Hangman
Loren: Wait, is THIS PG-13 Saw? Mixed with a little Law & Order: SVU? Also, that was Vincent Kartheiser? Trying the Christian Bale method acting I see.
RDT: I feel like I’ve seen this a million times before. Pass.
Rick: This is a mashup of ideas from better movies and TV series. Hardest of passes.
Jen: I don’t think I felt the intensity they were hoping I would feel watching this trailer.
The Vanishing
Loren: Has Gerard Butler ever made a good movie? I can’t think of one. This a least looks to be trying. But also it will fail.
RDT: Loren, I checked IMDB. He’s a voice in the How to Train Your Dragon movies. And Reign of Fire isn’t……terrible……I guess. Yeah, I got nothing.
Rick: I don’t know. This looks like a decent Straw Dogs-style thriller. I won’t run out to theaters to see it, but it might be worth a go at home if I’m in the right mood.
Jen: Loren, have you not seen Timeline? Gerard Butler at his hottest. Continue reading →

Vice
Loren: That’s a hell of a cast. Not really my kind of flick but I might have to check it out regardless. Fingers crossed for a screener.
RDT: I’m kinda into this. I enjoyed The Big Short even though, despite Margot Robbie in a tub, I didn’t quite understand it. So, I’ll eventually give this a watch.
The Lady™: Maaaaaaaaybe? I’m not in love enough to see it in theaters. Let’s hope I remember I wanted to watch by the time it hits streaming.
Rick: I’m not one for political movies, but it’s hard to resist such a great cast. I’ll get around to this eventually.
Holmes and Watson
Loren: Nope. I have officially given up on Will Ferrell. I’m still ok with John C. Reilly as long as it’s more Walk Hard than this.
RDT: 0% on Rotten Tomatoes is all I need to know. I’ll just watch Step Brothers again instead.
The Lady™: Oh no. Absolutely not. *puts foot down*
What’s that? Hugh Laurie’s in it? I…um, just remembered I have to run an errand. I’ll be back in about 90 minutes…
Rick: I enjoy both of these guys (most of the time), but this looks terrible. If I need a John C. Reilly fix this week I’ll find myself a screening of Stan & Ollie.
On the Basis of Sex
Loren: Yeah I’m with Rick below. I think there’s more to be gained by watching the RBG doc than watching a biopic. Also between this and Vice I’m realizing how weird it is to have Biopics for people that are still alive.
RDT: That’s a good trailer. I’ll keep this on the radar, too, or perhaps borrow a screener…..?
The Lady™: Yeah, great trailer. As a lazy viewer, I will also wait for home viewing options.
Rick: I like Felicity Jones, but I feel like I’d get more out of this story by watching the RBG doc that came out earlier this year. Continue reading →
As we celebrate the Winter Solstice, the guys try to figure what a 5-film franchise is called, the Fast and The Furious timeline and what the new 90210 reboot will actually be. They are only successful with one…

Bumblebee
Loren: Please be good. Please be good. Please be good. Please be good. Please be good.
RDT: I’m definitely seeing 2-3 movies this weekend. If it’s two, it’ll be Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Bumblebee…
Rick: I was completely against this until I saw the trailer that revealed the G1 Transformers. Here, Paramount. Take my goddamn money.
Jen: I thought this was going to be terrible, but this trailer actually gives me some faith in the Transformers franchise again. We’ll see…
Aquaman
Loren: Why am I into this? Is this universe un-fucking itself? Maybe.
RDT: …and if it’s three, it’ll be Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Bumblebee and Aquabro.
Rick: Apart from Wonder Woman, Aquabro was the only good thing to come out of this awful mess that is the DCU. I’m not in any hurry to catch this, but I’m in.
Jen: It’s crazy how the ocean doesn’t just boil over from his hotness. Yes, please.
Mary Poppins Returns
Loren: Emily Blunt is definitely the best choice for Mary. I haven’t heard the MOST positive reviews of this but I’ll give it a go at some point for sure.
RDT: I already saw it. (Thanks, More Successful, Hollywood Connection Friends!) So, I don’t want to spoil it. I’ll just say I found value in seeing it up on the big screen. Now tell me that’s not a ringing endorsement!
Rick: I like the idea of this, but I’m honestly more interested in seeing how the animation and live action play together than in its actual story. I’ll catch it in theaters, but I’ll wait a few weeks.
Jen: This is on the list, but I feel like I want to revisit the original first just so I’m caught up? That seems weird, and probably unnecessary, but there it is. Continue reading →

Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse
Loren: I legitimately wanted to watch this again right after seeing it on Tuesday. It’s so good. Rick (who couldn’t make it this week) wanted to add: Dramatic (but fairly accurate) recreation of the crowd at the end of the screening Loren, The Lady, AJ, and I attended:
Seriously. Arguably the best Spider-Man movie. 10/10.
RDT: Having serious FOMO here given a few of my cohorts already saw it. My weekend is pretty packed, but I will definitely try to see this sooner than later. It looks like an Amazing Spider-Man movie.
The Lady™: I cannot recommend this movie enough. I only know the basics about Spiderman (I’m an X-Men girl) and I still loved the absolute shit out of it.
Jen: This looks like a lot of fun – the scene from this movie that played after Venom was, by far, the best part of Venom. If I sat through that in the theater I can at least give this a chance.
The Mule
Loren: I actually liked Gran Torino but hated his weird 2012 Superb Owl spot for Chrysler. I guess what I’m saying is I don’t care about old man, gravel voiced Clint Eastwood.
RDT: I’m super hit and miss with Clint. That being said, I am intrigued by this. And reviews are decent on Rotten Tomatoes (61% as of this typing). So, I’ll keep it on the radar.
The Lady™: The only way I’d watch this is if they did a shot for shot remake with Bill Hader playing Clint Eastwood.
Jen: There’s a great cast here (Michael Pena, Bradley Cooper, Dianne Wiest, Laurence Fishburne) but it seems like they all play second fiddle to Clint Eastwood. And I… just don’t love Clint Eastwood. I’m sort of over him and his gruff old guy trying to make amends for a life of bad decisions. I would be into this same movie if it were the story of his long suffering wife, though, a more original spin on this.
If Beale Street Could Talk
Loren: That looks like a powerful love story. So powerful in fact that I might search this one out. I am a little curious as to why they used the vocal track from the Fugees version of ‘Killing Me Softly’ instead of Roberta Flack’s but that’s the nitest of picks.
RDT: I thought Moonlight was great (though I would have intercut the 3 sections). So, I’m hoping to catch this in a screening or maybe borrow a screener.
The Lady™: That costuming alone would be totally worth the price of admission.
Jen: I’ve heard nothing but wonderful words about this and, frankly, Regina King is a gift to we mere mortals, I’m definitely checking this one out. Continue reading →
